    Soldbuch Help Requested!

    Hello everyone!
This is my first sojourn into the world of Wehrpasses & Soldbuchs (I usually reside in the Crosses forum).
I'm looking to acquire one or two groupings and have lots to learn on this subject, so I'd REALLY appreciate any help you folks can give me.
    Question #1
I understand that passphoto's were not required in Soldbuchs which were issued prior to 1944.
    Is this an accurate statement?
Thanks in advance for your help!
I'm sure I'll be back with many more questions!

    Hi Roy,

Have you checked Gary T's site? It is a plethora of information.

Don't believe everything you read on the internet, that's how WWI got started.

      Heres details regarding Soldbuch photos:

Here is a translated version for OKW....Heer, Luftwaffe and SS all make reference to this dated order.

Lichtbild im Soldbuch. Oberkommando der Wehrmacht 16.11.1943.
The security situation in the Reich and occupied areas, the search for all possible criminals of German and strange (?) nationality and the execution of Wehrmacht control for the maintenance of the discipline require that also the Wehrmacht members can exactly and perfectly prove themselves by a photo document of identification like each civilian.
Therefore for the completion of the Soldbuch as identity card for members of the Wehrmacht the photo is inserted in the Soldbuch (chest picture without head coverage).
The photo is on the inside of the upper single inner cover and to be fastened by glue with the service seal of the troop unit concerned or the station (stamped left above and right lower, left lower and on the top right). Also the personal signature of the Soldbuch holder (fore and surname) is to be carried out.

The equipping of the Soldbuch with the photo is to be accomplished by 1.4.1944, with the units of the Wehrmacht in combat the latest is 31.12.1944.

A thread discussing this is as follows:

        Ian & Michael,
Thank you kindly for the info, it's much appreciated!
One grouping I'm looking at has a 1939 SS issue Soldbuch with no entries past 1942. The Soldbuch never had a photo which I now understand is correct according to the info you've provided. Accompanying this document is his 1941 issue SS Wehrpass, which includes a uniform photo. I'm waiting for a bit more info on the grouping. When I get it I'd like to post more details for your comments.
        Thanks again for your help!
