    SS Officer

I have this label inside a black cape I have already posted in the SS uniform section, any specialists out there who can offer clues as to the name, I will include an image, I have worked with in my image shop, also
an unaltered image so you can change your way. Please help, if you can
    offer anything at all!
    Thanks in advance
    Martin

          Pittzer?

          My guess is

          Hans Pittzer (or Bittzer)
          Januar 1939

The first letter of the last name is either P or B which is followed by an "i"; the last four letters are definitely "...tzer". So if we thread all those together and Google it, we find that both Bittzer and Pittzer are German family names.

          Regards,
          Guy Power

Hello, Guy, Thanks for your input, really is helpful, I was also thinking the last 3 letters of surname were... zer, also that the first name was Hans,
however I had come up with an R for the first letter of the suname, thanks for taking the time to help its greatly appreciated!
With luck I shall be scouring the dienstalterlists soon.
            cheers
            Martin

                Hello Martin,

Always glad to (try) to help.

There's something I don't like about my first guess. The more I look at the last name, the more I do *not* think it starts with a P -- the construction of the top loops, and the bottom loop on the descending stroke .... nothing at all like a "P" script from that period.

The more I look at it, the more it looks like an "F" or maybe even a "T" -- though I've seen more "F"s with that sort of top. I can't choose between T or F because I can't see the short horizontal stroke of an "F" ..... but if I look hard enough, I fool my eyes to believeing it is there.

I've Googled both Fittzer and Tittzer ..... and yes -- they are German names as well.

With T or F in mind .... what does it look like to you?

                Good luck with your research,
                --Guy Power

Guy, Thanks for your continued support, I am now combing the 44 Dienst`
and will also be doing them same with the 38/39 once I receive it, working with Hans, and zer and ger as a finish to the surname. I know what you mean by fooling the eyes! One must remain objective!
                  Cheers

                      Bwa-hahahaha..... I feel your pain

Seriously though, could you re-look the list and see if any name ends in "...ttzler"? I'd go so far as to say that the double-letters are definitely "tt".

Incidentally, who -- in 1939-- would have purchased such a cape? In the US Army it is worn with the mess dress uniform (white tie only) and only by officers .... and probably only in Washington DC if ever worn nowadays (I think it is still an optional piece). I doubt that a young untersturmfuehrer could have afforded to buy a full mess-dress uniform unless he was from a "comfortable" family.

                      Regards,
                      Guy
