Okay, stupid question but what is a correct string or lanyard to use for a German ID disc? Secondly, who might have one they can part with?

Hi Gene - I have never seen a loose one. I have 3 disks with cords and they are attached slightly different, but all have knots that are fused together. The traditional cord is about twice as thick as a helmet cord, somewhat stiff as they are covered with dried sweat.Alitur vitium vivitque tegendo -

I have a few that have come with documents, however all are different!
Some have green chord, some have a metal chain, some have string and I have a Fallschirmjäger one that uses para chord!
I will try and provide some scans later today.

Yeah, the cords on the 5 discs I have with them are all different too, however I believe 4 of those are replacements. This one seems to me, because it's the most commonly enocountered, to be most likely the 'standard' cord:
Another reason I believe so is that this particular cord is actually spliced to a shorter section of a completely different and definitely non-standard type of cord.

Oh and cords on discs are actually quite rarely seen- of my 300 discs, I only have 5 WWII, and 3 WWI with them- so finding a loose one would probably be difficult...Comment

This is what I generally call a normal cord. Nearly all have that fused knot and sweat stained and stiffened. Other kinds could be period replaced or from yesterday for that matter.Last edited by Colorado; 04-08-2006, 03:48 PM.Alitur vitium vivitque tegendoComment
