Painted Number in helmet

I have recently bought a helmet with the number 37 044 painted on the rear inside skirt, is this an individual soldiers serial number or a unit field post number? How can I trace this number to see who it belonged to?

37 044 belonged to I./SS-Pz.Gr.Rgt.37 of the 17 SS Pz.gr.Div. from the end of '43. Prior to that the numbered belonged to the Luftwaffe.

What kind of helmet is it?
