Hi Doug,

Thanks for providiing the additional scans. Yes, noticed that about his father as well. From the scans it looks as if he was posted to either the 18th or 23rd Flak Divisions. From the awards page it looks like he saw his heaviest period of combat, and awarded accordingly during the Summer of 1943. As this would have been the most likely, but not neccessarily so, the period in which the awarding of an EKI would be seen. However, due to the descretion of his command no award of the EKI was warranted and the award page bears this out. It did happen, and as mentioned in the earlier post having a particular number of awards did not neccessarily entitle one to an EKI. After this he was awarded the kvkI during very early 1944. IMO, at some point during the second half of 1943 his award of the kvkI would have been for exemplary conduct in support operations for his unit. Although not directly related, his photo on the inside cover shows him working at a desk. So at some point he began carrying out more of his administrative Oberwachtmeister duties...pushing paper! Btw, a nice passbook.
