              yup,
hey I went to sleep last night thinking about Deumer...(what happened to boobs!) but anyway, how come they had 'left over' frames etc of EK's and nothing else? Surely they must have had left over everything then? Wouldn't they make alot of $$$ selling 'nazi' crosses too, or did the 'swastika police' come calling and destroy all that, dies and all...?
just thinking aloud, and sorry if this is old ground

You still find other 57ers made out of leftovers, as long as it does not contain the swastika. I beleive all that had the swastika in it was destroyed but the rest was used, like frames, pins, catches, hinges, etc. Peter had once started a thread on maker marked 1957 awards, which could be of interest on the subject .

thanks Henri, great other thread too!
Peter showed a KO marked '57 EK1, and I had the EXACT same WW1 EK1!!! I did think the core was a bit 'glossy'...!

so the same original firms made up these '57's with their original parts? or were all parts gathered up together and assembled by another/other firms...?

surely that leads us to think that all the firms identified to have made '57's out of left-over parts: Steinhauer & luck, Deumer, Souval, Otto Schickle etc. Could also have post '45 assembled 'nazi' EK's? using their left over swastika cores?

                          thinking aloud again...

                              Jon

S&L definitely continued doing these awards, but I am not sure that all the other early pieces were done by the actual manufacturers. But there again I have never seen clear reference to this.

I too do wonder at times what happened to all the dies. I'm sure not all were destroyed . Just a thought to ponder on .

                              - it's a challenge hunting for these early pieces, although I must say I have slowed down lately and sold alot of the duplicates. Just a short story, I once bought 2 early S&L RKs from a source in Germany, who bought them from someone who had found a box full of them in an old S&L Factory. These had no ribbon loops but just the cross and I could just imagine the site of finding a box full of them . How was that for a burden? All those RKs .
