Thanks guys, yes this one is pretty nice.

I don't kow why the envelope had the '1939" blacked out, but I haven't seen too many of these envelopes by this maker either, so....

                Tony,

Sorry to say, your pictures just don't show enough. Overall, the die characterisitcs of your spange do look like a good match for Deumer IMO, including the maker's mark. However, only you can see the details in-hand and compare to the other PICS shown here. Ask yourself if the details look the same?

You generally need bigger, clearer PICS for accuracy. Your spange looks worn, and the details are not very sharp, perhaps due to the wear on the piece. There is a good amount of detailing to these spanges and yours, at least in the PICS, don't have much IMO. The location of the maker's mark on your spange is not the normal, more common position, but I do believe these were marked both center and lower like the one I show.

There are slight differences in the numbers between mine and the other two shown, but perhaps different lighting, different wear, and the die have something to do with that. The two things that would concern me are the narrowness of the eagle's beak on your spange and that of the other two which are fatter in that area. Again, this could be wear, but there is a difference in the PICS shown. In hand?

The last thing that would concern me is the pins. I assume the pins are a replacement/repair to the original setup. You can guess as much as anybody else exactly when and where that happened, but IMO, it detracts from the piece and unless you're going to use it on a uniform or display where the back is not seen, the piece is "not for my collection". It will also be harder to resell this later as this "repair" will always be suspect by most collectors, unless the price is discounted accordingly.

Only my opinions, but hey, beauty is in the eye's of the beholder.

so far there is nothing that concerns me about the spange.
                  well, clearer pictures would help.

I have a couple of these (and you can see more in the clasp section of the main site - http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/iron...ge/spange.htm).

The pictures are rather poor, but as Tim stated you can compare from our pictures.
