        medal bar EKII w/round 3

Notice the similarities (pin, hinge, catch) between the 1914's, and the 39 in the first two pics... 1st class prinzen is cool.

This one is of an EKII with a round '3'.

              Tiger1,

Great looking EK1, round three! And even better, it conforms to originals. But I guess you already know that. This is more like a "museum" thread rather than a question thread, no?

              Cheers, Frank H.

                Thanks

                Hi Guys,

Thanks for the nice words about my EK's.

I want to thank my friend George for taking and posting the pictures for me. He did a heck of a job.

The reason I posted these was to show the three very similar hinges used on a prinzen and full size 1914 EK I and the early 1939 version. These examples may have been by the same maker but as they are unmarked there is no way to know for sure.

The medal bar with the round "3" EKII was to show that the obverse on the 1st and 2nd class round "3"s are the same.

I've been collecting the Iron Cross series since I bought my first cased EK I for $6.00 at retail many years ago. I've been at it ever since.

I'll see if I can get George to post some more "Eye Kandy" for your enjoyment.

                Best regards and good hunting!

Here's an EK 1 with a similar early hinge and pin as those shown above, but with a "regular" 3. It is presented here to illustrate the further evolution of the Iron Cross from the above "round 3" piece.

                      OH!

Now I understand the differences it's just that it is easier to tell with the two side by side. Thanks again Tiger 1!

                        Lovely

                        Great crosses.

I really must get into collecting EK's soon.

This hobby is just getting more and more darn expensive.

But then it only makes me want even more pieces.
