With all the hoopala these days with mint material I would think there would be more damaged pieces out there than all the mint ones you see. Foremostly when the war was finally over and the atrocities where brought to light in the newspapers and news reels in the Allied countries, wouldn't one think that anything symbolizing Naziism would be subject to extreme damage and destruction? I know as our hobby grows and in any type of collecting field pristene mint pieces are always cherished more and worth more! I would rather own a smashed up piece like this than 100 phoney mint pieces anyday that you can purchase for $8500.00 USD's!

      Cheers

I like the beat up pieces as well. That is not saying there is anything wrong at all with "mint".

            'Phoney'?

            Presumably you mean 'unworn' Steve?

I was just being a little sarcastic. I would gladly pay that kind of money for a unworn example!(If I had it)!

The Knight's Cross posted is an original and I would be proud to add any original to my collection. Even though we don't have a 'story' with it, it certainly evokes more curiousity than a sterile mint example. Wonderful piece and one of those pieces that I wish I had to grace my collection.

now if that one could talk...another possibility could be the result of a crashed aircraft...still eitehr way its a piece that speaks volumes.
