Thick war merit crosses?

Hello everyone,i have a question about war merit crosses.i recently picked up a bar with a warmerit cross 2nd class with swords and four year service medal .the thing i've noticed is the war merit cross is very thick? Its aa early bronze piece.were early crosses so thick.i posted pick on warelics forum.thanks all
