    RK cases

We have discussed RK cases before in terms of construction, dimensions, materials and standard variations (round cornered, square cornered, etc) but one thing that has not been mentioned is weights!

Could as many of you as possible post weights of:

    RK cases you know to be original;
RK cases you know to be fake

It will be interesting to see if there are consistencies between the two.

    Regards

Here are my two 1957 RK cases. The smaller one weighs 91.55 g. The larger one weighs 149.75 g. Quite a difference!

            Hi Rich,

This would make a great thread for a packets & cases forum!

I picked 4 'period cases' at random, they weighed in at between 80-85gms.

            A early 1957 case weighed 105gms.

            My early repro case, 100gms.

            George,

            149.75gms WOW! Heavy.

OK, thanks for the data so far.

So already it would appear that '57 and repro cases are a lot heavier than wartime cases.

@Allan, would it be possible to weigh all your cases as I wouldn't seeing if any fall outside the 80-85 g ?

Being a skinny guy, my non-rounded, (hopefully) war-time case matches my personality, only 68 gram . Could be the lack of "mushroom"

Thanks for adding your data and quite a range! Could you describe the heavier one? Attachments is off at the moment for the forum migration so a description would be great.

Rich, the case is a nice quality round cornered type with the highlight line around the top of the lid. It has a simple push button.

It is from the estate of SS Brigfr. Hugo Kaas.

                        The case measures 146mm x 79mm x 20.5mm

Is it completely different to all your other cases? I'm trying to assess if large weight differential can be found in cases which all appear similar (perhaps even identical) or whether the difference in weight comes down to different manufacturers.

                          Thanks

The only difference that I see is that the base is ONE piece and the top ISN'T well padded...

The outer material, hardware etc. is much like the others.

It's only a suspicion but I think that the wood may not be a balsa type...thus the extra weight.

Those cases that are essentially the same weight appear to have been made by the same company...the slight difference in weight likely attributed to the 'hand made' and 'hand finishing'.

I'll post some pics when the system is up.
                            Regards,
