I assume that the video was made from WWII-era German newsreel footage?
I am in the process of researching a German Cross winner, Aloise Meixlsperger, who was an officer that served in a self-propelled gun unit on the Ostfront. One of the awards visible in a photo I have of Aloise is the "tank destruction strip."
According to Aloise's family, during the war they saw a newsreel (shown at a local movie house in Munich) that showed Aloise standing on or near a knocked out Russian tank, with the newsreel comentary identifying Aloise by name and crediting him with destroying the tank.
Unfortunately, I do not know the identity of Aloise's unit, the date of the tank destruction, or the date the newsreel was shown.
Are any of the WWII-era German newsreels preserved in any archive? Furthermore, is there any way to search for the newsreel that depicts Aloise Meixlsperger and his knocked-out Russian tank?
