    1939 EK1 Marked 800

Here's an interesting item. It looks pretty "fresh" to me. Ever see one like it?

I don't think so. I have not seen one like this and would prefer to pass on this one. It looks like a cross between a WWI and WWII crosses. Fresh, way to fresh for what would have been an early WWII cross if at all.

    IMHO

      Exactly!

If it is REAL, then it would HAVE to look like an early hybrid. I really can't tell from the pics, but my gut feeling is that this piece could very well be a great addition to an EK1 collection. The thing that gives me pause is that the hinge-pin assembly seems a bit 'loose'. But that may very well be the photos.

It does look very fresh, but I have picked up very fresh and very authentic 800, 925 and 935 marked cased 1914 EK1s that were stored very well for many years.

I dunno! All I know is that it is going to be sold for a lot more $$$ than I would be willing to pay for it!

I do know that 800 marked '39 crosses were made.

could it be a private purchase, or a speciality made one?? i dont like the space between the hinge, and a little too long, kinda like a luft. badge, but.....i have seen , only one, 800 marked army para badge , 800 marked and a special catch on the clasp to keep it from opening, this could be some thing of the same, dont know , good luck, richard

Could one of you please save and post the pics of this auction here. I do not get into that section of ebay, even after changing my Windows settings to US.

          Cheers & thanks,

          Frank H.

#4 there are a couple of more on the auction site.....but I think these 4 should be sufficient.

                    Dear Bruce,

Thanks for your help and efforts!

I also tend to like that one more than I dislike it.

Although (that doesn´t say anything about the cross itself) I think that the case is not original to the cross. It seems to me that such a highly vaulted cross should have left more obvious traces on the inner lower and upper lid. The tips of the arms do not seem to have "worked their way" into the fabric of the lower lid.

                    Cheers, Frank H.

                      Hello all

Is it just more or does the pattern on the case bother you? The cross looks ok but the case looks suspect.

                      Regards

There appears to be a little rust staining on the case lining behind the catch--a good sign.

hummm I think this one of thoes pieces you would have to handle first to get a good opinion, I like the reverse of the cross, and having another look at the case it seems ok.

One thing about this cross that puzzles me is why has it got what appears to be a dimpled, silvery paint like finish to the back if it is 800 silver? Why would you paint over 800 silver? I had second thoughts about the hinge but after looking at it, the gap is logical as there has to be some play in the pin to release it from the "c" clasp. The case looks a bit minty but overall I would say they both look okay.

could it be an anti-oxidizer?? it really doesnt look painted per say from the photos. i do like the way, and how centered the 800 is , i have seen that before, silver content being centered. again, this could be a private purchase.some folks refer to stuff like this as a jewelers copy, i have seen two that were purchased for non award presentations. looks good to me . i have seen alot worse. good luck.
