To me, reproduction and fake are synonymous in relation to the medal I posted. It is both.

I think the term "fantasy" may be what Byterock may mean - the creation of something that never existed in the war. Grand Crosses certainly did, and more than one.

I do not own the cross, and posted what pictures I did have to make a record of the markings.

      Regards, Robert

This one was just as you see it, sans ribbon or box, but no less reproduction.

Here's another GC (really probably a Souval) marked L/21 (but not incused) and also a real RK and Oaks (actually from Zimmermann) marked (validly) with the incused L/21.

            Leroy, very interesting.

Could you please post some additional closeups of the L/21 GC?

            Thanks.

Gary, I'd like to but this is the only photo I saved from when it was discussed here a couple of years ago. Haven't looked for the thread, but it's here somewhere (probably just under the general heading of "Grand Cross"). My memory says it was the same cross I'd seen in person, and examined, at a dealer at an SOS show (which was really a Souval), which is why I didn't save more in my archive.

John, correct me if I am wrong, but isn't this a RK and not a GC?

HI Gary, It is a wannabee GC, look at the 1813 size in comparison to one on a KC,--the pic is deceiving as it is a GC in an oddly small box about the size of a KC box form fitted to accept a KC.

I am still a little bit confused.
The easiest way is the size. Is your example 63mm, instead of 48mm?

John has posted three different crosses from a larger group of crosses sold at an auction.

The reproduction Grand Cross, marked L/21, had no ring, ribbon, or box.

The Knight's Cross with ring and ribbon is a micro 800, had a box, and is an original. It is the one he shows with the bright swastika and is complete.

The last medal he shows in the box is a reproduction Knight's Cross, marked 800 and L/12, that is missing the ring. It had a box.

Easy to get the mixed up, there were about eight or nine crosses is a eclectic collection of militaria that had a mix of good and bad.

Here's the lots with the cased micro 800 and the Grand Cross.

                              regards, Robert
