Ive come across a couple of technical descriptions on the construction and manufacture of ek2,s.What im trying to gain is a bit further information on the finishing of the frame edges.
One description says the edges"were burnished to a high sheen and then laquered".
I have a 26 ring marked ,ek2.it certainly has that weathered look.I had a look under a magnifying glass at the top of the edges. There appears to be a line of silver laquer running along on the left and right sides of each edge.In the middle of these two lines you can faintly see the solder. In the case of this cross(it has had a hard life befor i got it),some of the laquer has come off and it looks quite rough along some of the lines, and a bit more of the under lying solder is visible.
Im assuming once the two halves were soldered together, the laquer was applied.
Was this done to hide the edge between the solder and the inner sides of the two halves.
What type of laquer was used? Was it like a silver based brennlaq, used on some badges?
