    German Cross - Original S & L?

My girlfriend is attending her niece's high school graduation next week out West and stopped by an antique shop there today. The dealer has several German items, including this German Cross in Gold. I am not an expert on German Crosses and am hoping that you professionals can tell me if this cross is original. I can buy it for $675. I think it may be an unmarked Steinhauer & Lück. If it is original, let me know if it has any liabilities. All comments are welcome.

      Hi Barry,

Not an S&L, but a postwar Souval.

      Tom
If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

Thanks Tom. What is a realistic value for it?

Hard to say Barry, I don't collect postwar fakes (that I know of anyway!). So to me this piece is worthless, but there are collectors out there that buy postwar stuff from the wartime makers like S&L and Souval. Its really all in the eye of the beholder, but I can't see something like this fetching more than a few hundred dollars to be honest

The way some people seem to be falling all over themselves recently about Souval Postwar RKs and such .. likely they'd pay a bundle ...

So is this a postwar parts piece or are all components made postwar?

100% postwar Barry; Souval didn't make the DK during the war.

IMO worthless, but I guess perhaps 50, for a guy without money and who needs it as a filler?

I have had and sold many post war Souval (I use to get medals direct from Souval and Floch)They were sold as post war and the DK was glued together not riveted. This back in the early 60's.

Riveted or glued is not a question of time, Souval sold both versions simultaneously also in early or later version.

                        best regards

This is true Souval as well as Floch had at least three types of the same medal and badges for sale. You had the flea market ,gun show and the special made medal or badge. Here is one on the forum now for sale.

This is the badge that I got first in 1961 as well as others.
Back in the day I bought these badges from Ken Lane .He put me in touch with Souval and Floch and I bought from them direct as well as some guy in the UK(I can't remember his name.
