I found some of my cased badges!

I managed to get back downstairs again tonight and I found some of my cased badges, some of them are Luftwaffe, however there are a few EK1s, KVKs, and at least a couple of Spangen to the EK1s.....so I thought it would be OK for them to be here. I have posted all of them before I think, therefore I was just showing I found them........good thing I did. Those guys stuck them in a place they could have been damaged.

Ron, I see a nice early 1st pattern EKI spange case. Could this have a 1st pattern Juncker spange in it?

OK guys you want to see; however, I told you they have all be posted before. It seems that the one you are most interested in is the EK spange. I didn't take any pictures last night, and I left them downstairs but in a safer place; however, here are old pictures I took when my hands shook less than now.

This one was just in a plain LDO case, no eagle or nothing else. It is one I posted before and finally you fellows identified for me as a Hymmen....old pictures.

Thank you I always felt that way too, especially the way I got it many years ago. I used to go to various towns picked by me at random, and stop at small groceries, service stations, and beer joints or if I could spot a barbershop I would go there. In small towns in my area those are the places where everyone knows everything about the people from miles around. I would ask the people in there if they knew any WW2 vets who may have brought back stuff from the war, and who might want to sell it. If they told me someone, I asked them for directions to the vet's place and what their name was. Then I went to the vet's house, knocked on the door, and told the vet I had been talking to whatever the guy's name was who told me about him and what I was interested in. The true fun part for me was I was truly interested in hearing about his service (unlike the family members, who ran for the hills so to speak, because they had heard the stories over and over and they were not interested in them at all or the things he brought back, while he could tell if really wanted to hear them.....and sometimes we talked for hours). At some point, usually when I had been there so long I was in danger of meeting my "death" because I had been gone so long I missed dinner or was late for a party, I would ask him if there was some means by which he would part with his things. I never asked him to buy the stuff, because it was his past life when he was young strong and engaged in the most exciting thing most vets ever did, and it might offend him. Sometimes they said no, sometimes they said yes they would sell and I said how much (I never made an offer....again it might offend or I might lose the chance because they would think I was low-balling them) and several time they would after asking their family and getting still no good answer give the things to me.

In this case with the spanges posted recently, I did as I described above. I never got to another place that day and my wife (now deceased....my first wife) was really mad at me when I got home from Ohio (I live near the border and a lot of my hunting was in Ohio). I got not only those too things but also about 4 mini mother's crosses with the little boxes, a box for the Memel medal (no medal) some KVKs (a couple of 1st classes cased and some medals), a few Russian Front medals, some tinnies (don't remember how many....mostly common), some cloth not much and common, and 2 EK1s cased and a few EK2s. His price was $12, his price and this was in the 1960s. He then remembered something else, and brought out an Eickhorn army dagger with the hanger and which his price was $6.

Those were the days, which I miss and will never be back........also why the fun went out of it......so I quit actively seeking the stuff.

                    Ron

In order to try to keep from getting questions about the spange, it is not for sale or trade and hasn't been since I got it in the 60s.

                      Thanks,
                      Ron

I agree with you Ron when you say the fun of collecting in the old days is gone. I started collecting as a boy in the early 50's. Just one story: For cutting a neighbors lawn & watering their garden while they were on vacation for 3 weeks my payment was a M-40 single decal Luft helmet which I still have to this day. It was 1953 and I was 7 years old. Fun back then ! Tom

Lovely spanges! Maybe it is the photo but the LW observer case looks like the dotty fake. Might be a good idea to post it up to clarify.

                            Rich,

Thanks, but I don't need to although the observer badge in it is an original Juncker, I bought a repro case for protection for it and have never claimed it to be an original case. I never felt the need to mention it because I never intended to sell it, and still don't to this date.

                            Thanks again,
                            Ron

                              Ron,

Thanks for posting these and telling the story of how you got them. That Junker Spange is a real stunning piece.

I am sure the memories of how you got these is just as important as the pieces themselves.
