Hí Douglas and Jarek IMO very big the similarity these the manufacturers between maybe this or that ,as we know it ,the S&L was big maker and it delivered many manufacturers ,but possible that S&L product

Yes Alf : ... just as with ourselves it is called : 'aging' !
Dies can only take so much pounding until they start to crack and break down .
It was up to the manufacturer to decide when to take the die out of service and replace it with a new one .
Some makers pushed their dies to the max wear ... like S&L and Maybauer EK2s . Ever die eventually will wear out - it is just that the others traded out their dies as these flaws started to appear .

Thank you Douglas, My problem would be how to perceive a worn die from a defect in a fake.
You might say; It takes time
