    EK1 spange - flat pin?

I have had this one for 15 years, never been to sure about it as I have not seen a pin the same on a real or fake. I have not got rid of it as I'm not sure and anyway it looks nice. Comments please?

        Hi Mic,

This is a hard one - at least for me as at the moment and being away from my references doesn't help! It's not a genuine Deumer or Mayer. It's not a Floch or raptor repro either. The hinge/pin/catch assembly looks believable (Mayer-like). Can you confirm the hinge is not set into a recess into the back of the Spange? I'm not too keen on the dark halo around the catch though. The obverse detail looks OK, except for maybe the middle talon on each leg and the chest feathering looks very regular/symmetrical - a better/closer scan of the obverse may be useful. Looks like silver plated tombak? I'm not sure either way on it - 15 years old doens't really help as many of the better fakes came out around this time. You'll need to wait for someone more familiar with Spange variations (or has access to reference books!)

        Regards

          Thanks for the reply Mike,
To answer your question, no the catch is not recessed into the spange. I have attached some more pics, sorry about the quality as it is the best I can do with my camera.

                Hi Mic.

I'm no expert on these, but I wouldn't trust that folded hinge for a second

                  Thanks Peter,
It's looking like another one for the reject bin

Hi Mic, could well be wrong on this one but dont like the Eagles head, Chest or the reverse set up. Not one for me.

Nothing wrong with a hinge like that... that's how they are on the '26' marked EK1's!!

This folded hinge also exists on genuine war badges like GABs. The clasp is strange but possibly original.
                        Cheers, Frank

I would not have a problem owning or buying this one. It looks original to me.

Thanks guys for the vote of confidence, like I said I've held on to this peice because I like its look and uniqueness. I am not really into EKs so it maybe time to sell to enable a purchase of a Luft GCB (anyone got one for sale??????).
