    Embroidered German cross

    Hello gents,
Could I have your opinion about this embroidered german cross.
    Many thanks
    Regards

This one does not conform to the known, accepted original cloth DKs.

If it were really cheap or if it came with provenance, I might consider purchasing it. Otherwise, I would pass on this one.

Are there others that have been shown/evaluated that exhibit and embroidered wreath rather than a metal one?

      Just wondering...

        Good evening,
Sorry to be on late to answer you.
This cross come from a old man from foreign legion, it was in a box with other decorations (several countries).
        Just can say that.
        Regards

          Jip,

Where it's not like other cloth DKiGs, beyond finding it in a box of medals, what research have you done that indicates (for you) that it's authentic? I assume you've searched the web for embroidered versions. Found another without a metal wreath that's made similarly?

I would certainly like to see more examples.

Why would the embroiderer leave out the date of the award's institution?

            Dear Rick,
I don't know if it is authentic or not, I posted in this forum to have an opinion of collectors who know very well this sort of decoration.
I found on the web lots of copies, absolutly not similar whith my cross, photos of authentic are not exactly the same, spacialy for the year down the cross and the white cloth.
I hope some people here will help me.
            Regards

Looks like there is a spot on the wreath that has been removed. You could have taken the picture with the cross upside down. The removed section could have been where the date was. Interesting cross. Just my opinion.
              Regards,
              John

These German Crosses in 100% cloth are nearly impossible to judge. Even if we would have one example with 100% watertight provenance, we could not extrapolate the learned knowledge to other pieces. It seems each one is unique.

The only think we can do is look at the used material and the way it is used. In this case this looks pretty convincing. But believing is not knowing and there is and most likely will never be a definitive answer. That is the reason I did not touch on these versions in my book.

It seems off center to me which would be troubling (to me) and likely others. Also, it would seem (to me) that the starburst should/would have more than aluminum wire to afford the highlights of the two pieces making up the starburst on a metal version as well as conventional cloth versions.

I find it intriguing but, as stated by Calvin, unless it were priced right, I would pass on it. Rick

                    Rick,

                    Not the same.

Have owned it for over 40 years (does not have any relevance to its authenticity)..........

That's a pretty compelling example Ron.

First I want to state that I'm with Dietrich Maerz in case of these crosses. It's always more a matter of believing, not knowing.

This one is part of the estate of an SS-KC recipient. It is 100% wartime.

                              Kind regards, Peter
