The pin setup is also classic pre war and wartime Godet when it comes to 2nd pattern eagle orders, that doesn't bother me at all. The star is original for me and the silver stamps are exactly what I would expect to see on a 1st pattern star. It's just somewhat uglier looking than the later version.

Do the eagles really conform to the known original first pattern eagles? Or, are they closer to the Souval post-war examples? I see differences that make me uncomfortable.

Here are some post-war Souval Eagle Orders. With work on the reverse hardware, would this star also be an original 1st pattern?

When you look at the Souvals, in the above post, please think of the orders without swords. Souval had its own interpretation of the swords with the hilts not touching the blades, unlike Godet.

I can't get the Eagles to match on the one Stukapilot shows, with the Souval types.
Any one Else who can see at match ?

But still, I have some doubts about the first one posted...but I could easily be wrong.

Patrick, do you have any actual referenes in regards of images or is the pin the only reason for your positive opinion? There are a few things that bothers me about this cross, although I've never handled one. Then again, who has?

                1. The shape of the heads are nothing like the normal 1st type design.

                2. The area between the legs and the feathers have all been cut out on the 1st type pieces I've seen.

                3. The swastikas are porly executed and should be sitting slightly on top of the enamel.

                4. The enamelled cross is too big for this type of rayed cross, the tips of the enamelled cross should be positioned in line with the 2nd set of rays.

                5. Both Silber- and 800-marks are differents to the ones I've seen.

                6. The ball rivets are also different.

                7. Check out Niemann's two 4th class 2nd type, the hardware on those are different.

                8. The hardware on Stukapilot's badge is very similar to the dito on the one posted by Trewor.

Now I've posted the reasons for my concerns, feel free to challange them and find suitable answers in order to reach consensus.

                cheers
                Peter

1937 1st design Grand Cross Star

Having collected and observed many other collections in the past 50 years in my OPINION this is the star for the Grand Cross set of the 1937 1st Design. Very few sets were given out in 1937 and I have only seen 2 complete cased sets

I beg to re-phrase my previous response. I've always imagined the 1937 version of decorations (medals excluded)) to be awarded for a fairly short period and most probably produced by one single firm. When introduced to a new type, which I've never encoutered, the foundations for my beliefs are naturally slightly shaken and I now need to contemplate the possible existence of two producers. I can imagine two scenarios:

                    1. The GC posted here is a fake and the GC's with the generally accepted design are contemporary.

                    2. The GC posted here is an extremely rare piece and the GC's with the generally accepted design are fakes.

There is of course a 3rd option i.e. there were more than only one producer of the 1937 series. I've stated my opinion, but all relevant info to enable a change of heart would be greatly appreciated.

                    cheers
                    Peter
