        DCM:

I'm curious....WHAT IS a "fair payment" in your view?

Whatever Barry paid over to the man is "fair". Realistically, the man "Stole" the item....He walked up to the man & 'insulted' him right there in front of everyone around him & "stole" it right off his person (according to the vet himself), & felt no remorse for taking it (stealing it), from the prisoner-of-war (who was supposed to be under the protection of the Geneva Convention!

In anyone's language "theft-is-theft" or are Americans "blessed" by God that allows them to get away with moral issues? I'm just curious, because this issue has come up before in regards to German prisoners & the "stealing" of their property within threads on this forum.

So, what is "fair payment" in your view?

        Just curious!

        Ron.

looks like a nice cross and its great you got to meet the Vet in person.

I do not sell any item that I get directly after shaking a Veteran's hand or that I have a real personal connection to; hopefully this is one of these "special" pieces you've come across!

          congratulations.

Unlike another certain somebody here that is a leach off Vets and has been caught crafting his trade at Veteran's expense. He knows who he is .. and others likely remember him too ...

(not William ... I'm just using his quote because I think that he has the right attitude on this subject).

No, you're not curious, you're insulting. It's called spoils of war, and the taking of artifacts from a defeated army is as old as time.

It didn't sound like the soldier who lost his medal to the US soldier was put out - get off your high horse.

Prisoners have lost much more than a decoration when the shooting stopped.

Hans Sturm, an RK winner, told me how when he was captured by Russians all his decorations were stolen from him. Then an officer came along and recovered the medals and handed them back to Sturm. The officer gestured to Sturm that he should put them back on. Once he had done so, the officer stepped back and ordered everyone to salute Sturm.

A POW should be handled correctly, including his property, but it is a little late for a court martial in this case.

Yes, it is a nice A-type, Steinhauer & Lück. You can actually see the knee flaw (9 o'clock and 12 o'clock arm) on your photos, Barry.
I must though say that it´s a bit naive to think that the receiver of the KC, for the rest of his life, was in the mindset “No, he didn't - like all the other German soldiers in the group, he was simply glad the war was over."
                          Best regards,
                          Mats

Easy Ron. I'm an American and I purchased my RK from a widow at a fair price. I would not steal a collectible item and in fact have recently returnd an item to a fellow collector who accidentally thought that he was selling me something that was worth about a hundred times less than it was. He thanked me for my honesty and sold it to me at half actual value because of my honesty. This hobby is already misunderstood enough, we do not need to be insulting one another with statements like yours about Americans. -Ger

That guy is the lowest of the low in my opinion. Swindling the son of a vet (as he did) to grab a cheap RK makes me sick.

Nice story Barry - I hope you keep it safe and look after it.
