    Ek1

I have had this one for nine years and prior to or since have never seen this hardware set up. Not quite KO imperial and not quite schinkel.

Anything possible from the core or otherwise for the EK enthusiasts?

That sure is an interesting cross.

I'm skeptical but... any chance of photos like this?

Not that they'll guarantee an answer, but they might tell us something.

This also roughly demonstrates the size compared to a 20 L/52 Zimmerman.

                    Thanks for the photos.

Do the backplate, pin system and frame seem like real silver to you?

I would say yes with higher certainty on the frame but unsure on the hinge and catch.

The problem with this Schinkel is that we've never seen one like it, and that immediately makes us all skeptical.

The fact that the frame seems like silver is a major problem in my mind. NO Schinkels were made with silver frames; indeed the number of 1939 EK1s of any type with silver frames that I've seen in a lifetime of collecting can be counted on one hand. 1914 EK1s, on the other hand, were very often made of silver. Fitting a 1939 core into a 1914 frame is a common way to manufacture fake Schinkels. We've seen it a lot.

So whether the frame is silver or not is important, to my mind.

Also the pin system is not known on any authentic EK1s I've ever seen, on any series. You're right in your analysis, by the way: close to KO, but not quite there.

All that said, the construction looks pretty convincing.

To be honest I remain highly skeptical, but I'm always open to learn something new. If someone offered me this piece, I'd want to examine it in-hand before making a decision. That's about the best I can say, even given your excellent photos and presentation. If I already owned it I would certainly hang on to it and see what develops.

I would say that if you want to study it further, try to find a 1914 EK1 (or EK2) with this same frame, and see where that leads you. I haven't looked to closely at the frame, and I bet it holds some answers....

Anyway, thanks for sharing it. It's interesting if nothing else.
                        Best regards,
                        Streptile

I have been looking for any leads on this one for sometime with nothing close surfacing yet.... I appreciate your interest.
