Mayer or Schickle EK1 Spange ?

    Hello all !

I would like your opinion on this spange !

Schickle's pin, body looks like a mayer.

My friend Jim says that is a Mayer with a schickle pin (Mayer get pieces of the Schickle producer). I believe him.

but, when I compare my mayer and this spange, I see some differences... (head, ...)

    it's possible that is a Schickle ?

thank you for your answer !!!

    Geoffrey

IMO, I believe the spange in question is a Mayer. The reason I say this is because the top of the left leg (as you look at it) is slightly taller than the right. I don't see this feature on a Schickle spange.

          Edit:

Here's a Schickle for comparison. I've circled another key feature that is to be considered.

To me it hast the typical Schickle-beak.....

One Mayer, one Schickle is what I see

But there are Mayer clasps around with Schickle hardware, that is true

              A point worth considering.

              Thanks Ben,

when I read the book "the iron cross 1. class", page 498, it's the same head (and beak)

I just looked at the book, and I agree.

IMO 1 Mayer and 1 Schickle.

I see two Mayer birds with different hardware.

                        I agree with Strep
I always look at the numeral '1' when thinking about schickles, very different from a mayer
                        nice birds though
                        regards

                          You're absolutely right jon,

Looking at the Schickle in the Iron Cross 1st Class book one begins to see many differing features between it and the Mayer. And, there are many similar features as well. Good photos are a must to draw accurate conclusions.
