in my opinion the two crosses are not different, they looks different because different paint and wear. nothing else from these pics.
P.S. in my opinion these crosses can NOT be Hoffstätters. No way.

                      Hi friend
yes you didn't use these words but it's called "8 variant" because a cross like your marked 8 on ring was found but after a certain observation it can not be a real 8.

HERE is a pretty good summary of the discussion.

                          thanks Trevor.
I don't save links but I remember of that thread that was very interesting for me.
I believe there is a point in favor of Assmann about this cross so in my opinion a more correct name for it could be "Assmann?" and in the same time we call Assmann a Schinkel type that actually looks more an S&H or maybe FLL.. actually it is for me.

                            Hi Fabri,

I agree this "8" could be an Assmann, but this doesn't mean that the "Assmann/S&H/FLL Schinkel" can not also be by Assmann. Think of how differently Meybauer and Deumer LDO EK2s look from Meybauer and Deumer Schinkels. In my opinion there is no contradiction in considering both types potentially by Assmann.
                            Best regards,

could be. I am inclined to think that Assmann dedicated his time and energy in badges prduction (after that could be and early EK production) and to complete own catalog they bought what they didn't produce directly.
