This probably seems like splitting hairs but to me if the piece is never awarded it is only an example of the medal. Only after it has hung around the neck of a warrior is it truly a Knight's Cross. And yes, I know they weren't always earned on the battle field but I think you get my drift. Awarded over shelf queens any day.

thats a hard question but since "4" RK are (at least for me) a topic that raises some questions i would take the worn L/12.

        Which kc

Looks like I'm going to get an L12 800 as my example, as I used to own a 65 and a micro 800 which was mint unissued . The L12 has lots of character to it and even though I can't say for sure who owned it, it was most definitely worn in the field and just looks like it was a witness to history! I will post pics of it when it arrives. Thanks everyone for your opinions .

Whether its worn or not is in the eye of the beholder. You can say you like 'em worn, but the mint will always sell and will always sell for higher a dollar than the equivalent in worn condition ... ALWAYS ...

Unless it has iron clad provenance which I don't think there is such a thing any more (other than one ... Tim C's 3/4 ring with a picture that leaves no doubt).

I have two two favorites. One being K&Q and Zimmermann. So when the time came to purchase my one and only I went with the K&Q. I like the boxy design of the cross which reminds me of the Art Deco designs of that period. I find that quite appealing. Could I have found a cased Zimmermann in the same condition I would have went with it. However, there were none to be found. Indeed, my example is one of the mint, never left the shelf, closet queen, souless, ect., ect., ect., example. However, as Darell noted condition will always trumph worn. Like real estate it's location, location, location. In our world of TR collecting it's condition, condition, condition.......
