The other R3 EK2 which is the B-Type R3 is a heavy EK as well . Mine which is mounted I cannot get an acurate weight on .... approximatly 18 grams ++ .
This type is smaller than the regular EK and is some what heavy for its size .

The standard Deschler EKII sounds like the heavyweight champion of the EKII's. Ja?

        Jawohl :
It seams that way , Robert . Not sure all were cut that large .
Did Deschler keep that weight on all their EK2s trough out the war ? ... or did they drop in weight later on ?

I'd have to do some weight comparisons on a couple unmarked examples I have up against a marked example (from the hoard). Tomorrow.

Alright, I weighed and measured two Deschler EKII's, an older unstamped cross and a stamped (maker-marked) cross from the Deschler hoard. Here are the findings:

            1. Deschler (hoard marked cross):
            a. weight: 24.5 grams,
            b. thickness: 4.68 mm,
            c. width (9:00 o'clock to 3:00 o'clock arm: 45.22 mm.

            2. Deschler (unmarked, older cross):
            a. weight: 23.6 grams,
            b. thickness: 4.6 mm,
            c. width (9:00 o'clock to 3:00 o'clock arm: 45.14 mm.

#2 cross was a little lighter, I think primarily because of its lesser width and overall thinner profile.

Here is the older, unmarked Deschler...

Interesting that there are only minor differances . With materials getting hard to come by one would think at least twords wars end (if not much sooner) Deschler would also have a thinner and lighter cross version -- around the normal 18 to 20 grams ? Wonder if anyone here knows of or has a lite one ??Fritz Zimmerman for example made a rare thick EK2 like Deschler - possible others .

Since this thread started I got an even heavier Deschler . Like with some other makers the stamping sheets gradually were getting thinner as the war progressed .
