I've never seen this type of RK before!

Hi to all! I need some help here guys! Does anyone knows what's this? It seems to be a WWI era Iron Cross, converted into a Ritterkreuz..

A very weird photo, if you ask me. You can see on the ribbon bar that some medals are from WW2 (like the Eastern Front Medal bar, for instance).

Any help, as always, is very much welcome.

    Regards,
    Sepp.

    Sepp,

I have seen EKII's from the WWII era being used as RK's before. It's uncommon but I know there's been period photos showing such conversions in wear. I have never see a WWI example being used however.

I'd like to hear what the others have to say.

Hi Reinhardt! Yes, I've also seen many EKII's converted during WWII, in order to be RK's. But this is an Iron Cross from WWI! That's what I find strange here.

      Thanks for your help

      Regards,
      Sepp.

Now that's really interesting. I don't know if he was old enough to have fought in WWI, perhaps so and he's used his 1914 EKII as a fill in. Which area of service are the collar devices from? Is it police?

Having just looked at the shot again it shows no sign of a spang on WWI ribbon, so not sure what is happening. Is the first ribbon on the ribbon bar TR EKII? I'm guessing it must be.

            Just a fill in cross

I agree he's wearing this a a fill in till he can get his RK. BUT...I have never seen a WW1 EK2 being used for this purpose ! Neat & interesting photo ! His ribbon bar shows his 1939 EK, so we know he borrowed this cross from someone older. Sure would like to ID him ! Tom

Yes from his straps and tabs he's a policeman, perhaps from a Polizei rifle regiment ? or maybe invalided out of the armed services and serving as a Police NCO ? His awards look to be EKII 1939, KVKIImS, Ost Medaille and a long service award.

                  Interesting photograph indeed.
Is it just me that cannot see a 1939 EK2 ribbon on the bar? I can see a KVK with swords device but no EK2. ??

This is said to be Wilhelm Adams rk no evidence to prove it (it was cheap couldn't refuse could i ) but still an interesting piece he served in WW1,WW2 and with the NVA post war

It may be my imagination but i'm sure I can see his button through his EK1/RK.

The 1939 EK2 is the first ribbon to the left. ccfc - it's your imagination, the "W" in the center could look like thread holes in a button, but its not.

It would be nice to have the opinion of Dietrich!

It appears to be something like "Rudi Wittig" or "Witting"

I see what you mean - but that would also place the button a bit too low. I think it's just lighting & the W/crown/1914 shadows (so to speak) on the cross.
