You could be right... the 2 oldest S&L KC would be:

    * S&L A type frame with chemical frosting assembled to a dipping 3 core, marked with the large 800.

    Followed by:

    * S&L A type frame with chemical frosting assembled to a dipping 3 core,
    marked with the micro 800.

I wouldn't yet bet the farm on that scenario.

And now getting back to the actual subject of this thread, this is what I believe a real wartime S&L set of Oakleaves should look like:

Some people tease me because, instead of making an immediate beeline to the well-known "established dealers", I waste valuable time looking at all the contents of every riker mount and every little box at every big show, at tables of people I have not encountered before, until I am, by the end of the day, half-crippled, unable to stand up straight and damn near blind.

This is why. Found six weeks ago at the MAX. It's amazing how quickly those aches and pains vanish........

What do you have to say about S&L OLs/OLs&Swords, Pieter?

I do not know if this is S&L or if I should even add it to this thread. It does however, seems like an opportunity to discuss these so here goes.

              V. E. Bowen felt that this example was a match for the one described as "Example 1" on page 233 of his book and photographed on page 235 as the Example 1 now residing in the Imperial War Museum since 1946.

He was very impressed with this one shown in post numbers 52 to 57, believing it to be one of the best still in existence outside of the museum collection.

I have the history of how it was obtained but I will let you guys judge the item, not the story. It is not made of a high grade silver and might instead be plated nickel silver or brass.

Hopefully it might be of some interest in this current discussion,

              Chris

p.s. sorry about the camera. This is as big as I can get them. Time to ask Santa for a a new one.

Great photos, Chris! Not an S&L set, but compare to this set attached to a German Order said to be from Deumer, another Ludenscheid maker. Also look at the cross from the IWM photo. Is that a flat ring at the top and is the cross a Schickle?

                                Agree! Not a Schickle loop!
