Sorry about the poor quality and blackened photos. That's how the selling house posted them.

                        Sepp Dietrich's KC ribbon

Sepp45 asked me to post this directly.

Sepp Dietrich's converted EK-2 neck-ribbon (the whereabouts of the Cross etc. are unknown) he used to wear his Knight's Cross on. The item comes from the estate of a U.S. Army veteran who picked up quite a number of pieces from the Dietrich residence at Oberstdorf in the summer of 1945.

This particular ribbon can be identified on quite a number of photos especially during the summer of 1941 where Dietrich frequently wore his tunic's collar open due to the high temperatures in Russia. The cross would then just dangle down from Dietrich his neck/collar.

The advantage of the odd construction of this particular ribbon:
Dietrich would not need to take the whole cross and ribbon off to be able to open the collar and cool down a bit. (Some photos even show how he closes this particular ribbon)

Interestingly, the ribbon can be seen again in 1944 (see photo). This time he wore it with his Oakleaves and Swords under the collar of his his black service shirt.

This piece is one of two Knight's Cross ribbons recovered from the residence.

So not a Knight's Cross as such, but the only piece remaining from Sepp Dietrich's high decoration today.

More on the full details of how the items were recovered by the CIC personnel in the current/next issue of "Der Freiwillige" magazine (Munin-Verlag).

                        Cheers,
                        Markus

                          Regards,
                          Sepp.
