Ek1 L/13 Turned Up Today

Hi all normally I am found lurking elsewhere,this arrived ,taken off a dead German during the war .First question is ,is it real ? the second is whats the box for as the pin on this Iron Cross is to big ,thankyou Rob

Looks like one that was stored in a damp area. A great deal
of rust is trapped under the paint on the core. The white area
of the box looks a bit bright for an original.

Would not be a set I would buy but to each his own.

The cross looks like an original Paul Meybauer.
Hard to tell about the case. A black light test would help.

Here is an L/13. I have noted from this and the photos of those posted on the forum a very distinct appearance of the "1" in the "1939" with a long downsloping componant. The piece I have posted appears to have the bulge in the pin higher on the pin, while other L/13s , as this one, appear more in the middle. Likewise, the mark can be on the pin or at the base of the catch. The shape of the digits on the core and the die characteristics of the beading are identical. I can see the difference in color of the catch and hinge. Could someone explain that? Thanks
