    S&L EK1 Sideways 4

    Hello Everyone,
I've owned this EK1 for a while now and have always wondered about the makers mark has anyone seen a sideways marked 4 before. I have seen a few S&L EK1's but they all seem to be marked straight?
If anyone else has a sideways 4 please feel free to post pictures.
    Thanks,
    Jordan

    That's a first for me.
(I've seen the "4" mark both straight and "sideways" on the rings of S&L's EK 2s also.)

Don't know if it is just me in need of more coffee ... or do I see an 'A' type Flock needle here with modified tip - and a short top 3 in the date ????

                Hi Douglas,

Please excuse my lack of knowledge... I read these postings to learn about the Iron Crosses. I have Dietrich Maerz book "The Iron Cross 1. Class" and I don't see a manufacturer "Flock" listed. I did a search on the internet and still can't find "Flock"... Can you help me?

                Regards,
                Don_

                  It's actually Floch not Flock.

Pretty hard to see definitively, but look 100% to me.
Marks were stamped all over the place, upside down, sideways, upright ... if you think you've seen it all .. you haven't been around long enough.

So the posted EK1 is then original ?
I am having difficulty with seen these two pins being realy any different /... or is the difference between a good and bad one just a minute one .

                          Regards Douglas

It looks like S&L placed the 4 both centered and high on the pin... The only thing that bothers me is the 4 itself. Your 4 is in a rectangle punch recess, and the ones in Dietrich's book; the 4 is in a square punch recess. Now, that is different! However, the experts need to make the call on origin, and not me...

                            Regards,

                              Hello,
I believe Steiner and Luck had a few different marks when marking there pins and the square 4 is the most common.
I believe that this EK1 is a original example with a not so common mark.
                              What do the experts think??
                              Thanks,
                              Jordan
