Vaulted 1939 Iron Cross First Class

I just picked this one up from a local estate, along with some other medals. The vet was in the 34th Division, captured at the Kasserine Pass, and held in Stalag VII A until the end of the war. He obviously picked this up on his way out of Germany, and not in Africa. I know there's lots of controversy about the vaulted 1939's, but I would love to hear some opinions on this one. Hand done? As you can see, the beading in the corners near the swastika sticks up. Is that a sign of hand bending in the field? Any comments are welcome.

      Hi

This vaulting is made by hand maybe in the field and thats why the inner corners sticks up

        I agree, a nice early hand-vaulted W&L EK1.
        Best regards,
