    Rudel's awards photo

Rudel's awards appeared in books before, but I believe these photos( slightly difference) are the only two photos of all Rudel's awards. Any more I miss ?

I wonder what happened to his RK? The centre black finish seems to have suffered badly.

From what I have seen in pics and crosses etc it seems it was common practice for the the Luftwaffe types to scrape off the paint on the swastika on their ICs and KCs.

I guess it really was a' National-Socialist Air force'

The other question i have is the portrait with all the medals 'post-war'??

Several years ago at a London Auction (Philips)
I handled his RK Citation. It was so heavily handlled,
the vellum parchment had lost its "skin" and was very
dirty and transparent.(just the single sheet was for sale)
It was withdrawn just prior to coming up at the last minute
as his then, current wife, layed claim to it.
I saw Adrian Forman there examining it very closely

Interesting to know about this KC document, thanks. But I am more interested to know will these 3 pictures taken by same person or different persons and by who? Perhaps we never know. Just for my curiosity.

Didn't Vern Bowen take a photo of Rudel's awards when he met him prior to publishing his book on the Iron Cross?

I understand that Vern Bowen was the only one to take photos and all these are from him.

I've always thought it rather strange that he was always pictured with that well worn KC. Especially since it just seems to diminish the overall tidiness of the set with the Golden Oakleaves and Swords.

I would guess they were proud of the one they were awarded / wore, but still .... it's a well known fact that many RKtraeger's purchased additional copies for special occasions.

Didn't a lot of original paperworks prove otherwise...that it was not so commen to buy one or more additional RK?

I seems to remember to have read that on this forum, but can't find the thread.

I think I remember that about 500+ RK winners bought from the PKZ additional crosses (crosses lost in combat were supposed to be replaced for free). But if anyone really thinks an RK winner could not privately obtain another cross, they are living in a fantasy land.
