What I find to be VERY interesting are the three die flaws found on the 12 o'clock leg of this cross as many believe these three dots are only to be found on what many consider "post war" made K&Q KC's. To see it on an issued cross with provenance,...well, I find it most interisting!

          Wartime or postwar?

The 3 dots are not by themselves the indicator of a postwar cross.

It would be interesting to see a close up of his portrait, but an award date of 2/9/44 is perfectly consistent w/ this type of cross.....

Personally I think that the "three dot" issue of the K&Q Knights Crosses can be reduced to the following:

                    - "three dot" RKs from K&Q have been encountered in numerous REAL wartime groups (and I do NOT count the numerous special and ridiculously bold Niemann productions). Conclusion: there are three-dot wartime! examples, no doubt at all.

                    - no solid evidence, other than nebulous hints, rumors, or the like, has been produced until this very day that there was or still is a post-war production of the K&Q Knights Cross.

This does not necessarily mean that there was none. But for serious collectors and researchers there should be more than just some so far unproven statements. It could be - as has been proposed - that a stock of unissued K&Q Knights Crosses was discovered after the war and that theses mint examples made their way into the collector community (and into shady groups ....).

Someone in particular seemed to have a large supply.

This grouping would be perfect but unfortunately there are missing some award documents and also the most important: the knight cross award document.
