Iron Cross Info for the uneducated one

Hey Guys,

As im just starting with collecting, i am hungry for information to feed the evil addiction pains. I have a couple of questions and please forgive me if there is a tread with this info on it and if there is could you send me the link.

Ok...

1. With the maker marks 1, 2, 3, 4 etc, what is the differences between these and say the L/10, L/10 type of marks. I heard From a dealer here where i am from that the Ldo marks were privately purchased????

2. What are the rarer mm EK2......were there some manufacturers that only produced a small ammount??

Any info will be welcome.

Hi welcome to this forum and the collection of crosses...


@1. Yes it`s correct the L/=LDO nr: are private purscases..
And the manufacturer got a specific number when starting to make crosses..
Check out the official list of 1939 EK manufacturers...

@2. the most rare EK2 will be the Schinkel-B cross..

@3.All info of crosses will be found in this forum and from the books by
Dietrich Maerz & George Stimson..

More rare crosses are also LDO marked EK2, Übergrosse, Übergrosse littlebrother and some Schinkel variants

@2. the most rare EK2 will be the Schinkel-B cross..
