Iron Cross 2nd Class Round 3- Opinions

Hi Guys Was Looking At Some Of My Crosses And Noticed That I Had A Round 3. Measure 44 X 44. Multi Piece Magnetic, Swastika Appears To Be 10 X10 Mm And Well Below The Hight Of The Beading. Whats Peoples Aponion On This Before I Put Up For Sale. And What Price Would Be Fair. Thanks Ian

The cross is original. They go for roughly around 250 Euro in that condition.

    Cheers.

      It's a good cross. I paid $280 for mine.
      I once flew in a B-17, B-24, & a B-25. Next, I want to fire an 88 round.

Ian mentions that the swaz is well below the height of the beading, is this common with the round three EKs?

        Regards,

Brett I own two round 3's and on the first one the swastika sits just above the beading and is the most commonly encountered piece that I have seen. My other piece the swastika sits about half the height of the swastika. I have never seen a round 3 with a swaz that low before, still looks a good piece to me.

              Thanks Dez,

I have had one round three and the swaz on that one sat about even with the beading.

              Cheers,
              Brett

                Hi everybody,

could we please have more details on the EK with the round 3.
Is this an early version, certain producer, etc. ???
I found one in my collection - I´ll try to make some pics this weekend.
The swastika has about half the height of the beading.

                Thanks in advance,

From the round 3’s I have seen I would say they were produced by several firms and I guess they were designed by someone who had a aesthetic eye for the formation of the numerals, making them all uniform and a cleaner looking design.

                  I have never seen a round 3 maker marked.<O</O

Another slightly grey area of collecting...

Gordon W's book talks of examining a number of pieces and finding .."identical die characteristics suggesting that this variant is the work of one single firm.."

but in this thread ' Curved' 3 EKII there is reference to "the most commonly encountered Round 3 type" - so things have obviously moved on a bit since the book....

Frustratingly, the most important part of the 'curved 3' thread above, is the link Gordon posts to another discussion whereby it appears Boerger & Co. Berlin are VERY strong contenders to have made at least one of the variations.. A real treat for EK fans....

but of course, the vital accompanying image is now missing...

These are still the most informative threads I have found on the Round 3, but it dosen't exactly speed things up when you can't include '3' in your search criteria.....
