    Blue Case

    Hi,

I promised someone I'd generate some pics of this case and I've already mentioned it in Sal's Spanish Cross thread. So here are some scans.

The inserts do NOT match the case imo (note the tear marks on the undersides of the inserts do not match the case, any which way you turn them). The inserts appear to be genuine late war LW case types with almost all the fuzz/felt flocking worn off (traces remain on the undersides). The case also appears old and the closest type I can find is the blue Spanish cross type case. There are remains of a velvet type fabric/flocking on the insides of the case. There is about 1/2 of a blue lower insert edge liner present as well.

I've sort of ruled out a generic KM badge - if anybody has info to the contrary I'd cetainly like to hear it thoguh! It definitely will not fit a wide-pinned HSF or Minesweeper Badge but will accomodate a tall needle pin badge.

What do you make of it? All opinions welcome and appreciated.

    Regards
    Mike K

    Bonjour Mike,

Here is my input (for what it is worth)
I think the problem is that the original awards of the medals by the Wehrmacht to the recipients were in the deluxe boxes that were maroon/red for the gold, blue for the silver and green for the bronze SC - that is for the original ones (I mean the ones given in 39).
Again it is my opinion that the ones given as replacement or later, whatever class it is, came in a green case marked LDO - I have to say that 2 times I have seen blue case marked LDO that I suppose were for SC, like I have seen black case and I heard about bags so, I speak in general staying opened for variations (some boxes have a SC printed on the cover)

To make it shorter, I think it is not possible to find a blue case, not marked (LDO or SC printed on the cover) called mid war - again I can be corrected
I believe that your case is original (I have handle several in the past) but not specific to SC (maybe not even specific to LW badges) or it is a private order - and here I don't know.

      Bonjour François,

Your input is always worth a lot!

Just to state again, the inserts definitely do not match the case. Personally, I think it's an earlier case (it originally had "velvet" lined inserts - I can see the remnants on the lower inside of the case in the top left corner of the scan) with later inserts added (fuzzy felt covered - b*ggered if I can ever remember the correct German term - ?sprufrutz?, you can see this adjacent to the raised rectangles on the underside of the lower insert) - why and when this was done, I don't know.

Case dimensions are: 77.5 mm wide, 80.5 mm long (measured from from to back but adjacent to the hinge and push button, not including the hinge and push button), 25.5 mm high.

        Dear Mike,

The German term is "Sprühfilz" (sprayed on felt).
I moved your thread to Crosses as well as Sal´s.
        Cheers, Frank

Thanks Frank! Hard to search for a word you don't know how to spell!! I've finally written "Sprühfilz" down in my little black book for future reference.

            Hi Mike,

I think all pieces are originals , but inserts are not of this case ( probably from a LW late case ). I think if you put the insert inside, they can be a little more little then the cover.
Case is for a Spanish cross used for silver grade.
