    German archives

    Hello

Unfortunately, my topic devoted to KC attribution numbers has received no response.

    my topic

That's why I have opened this new one in order to try to solve my problem by another way.

I would like to know which is the best source to obtain original (i.e. official) data dealing with Knights Cross Holders ?

I suppose that today a German military/official record office stores information about KC recipients but I have no clue where to request information.

All suggestions are really welcome !

    Denis,

Your best hope is with the Bundesarchiv military branch.

Bundesarchiv - Militärarchiv, Postfach, 79024 Freiburg
    Wiesentalstr. 10, 79115 Freiburg

The Bundesarchiv also has a web-site
    http://www.bundesarchiv.de

      Hello Gordon
      Thanks for the reply.
By surfing on the Bundesarchiv site, I found these sentences. I am far from being fluent in German. Does this "stuff" mean that KC information is available ?

If so, would any forum member have the opportnuty to pay a visit to the Freiburg site ? I would like to know if archives are easily available or not. In fact, all the info is welcome to know if a one (or 2) days trip to this site is worth trying.
      thanks in advance

      Denis

        Hi Denis,
For as far as I can see, this means that the bundesarchive has got a whole load of document about the RK's, but more in the direction of the awardwinners and units. But also info about the GC in gold and silver and other high awards.

        Cheers: Peter

Thanks to John, Bruce and Peter.
For Bruce : Das Ritterkreuz is very good resource dealing with KC holders. What a pity that their forum section is not in English. As for theother parts of the website, you don't need to speak German to understand them. It is worth seeing it when you are interested by KC "stuff" !
For John : the address is the one of the Ordersgemeinschaft der Ritterkreuzträger. This is an association where KC recipients (or their relatives) can meet. They publish a quaterly magazine (in German) where you can find info about recipients.
The membership is not very easy since you must be sponsored by a KC holder.
              Regards
              Denis
