    Russian Hoard EK1

Dear all, I wonder whether this is a Russian Hoard EK1. I am not an EK1 expert, but would like to have a Russian Hoard. Please reply. Thanks!

It could be, but I am not sure that just because a cross is mint, MM26, and located in a square push botton case, that it automatically would be a cross "from the horde".
But maybe others can say if that is true or not?

              Hoard ...

              David,

There is no way to know for sure, but this one sure looks like one. I have two in my collection. When Helmut first sold them, most were in stone mint condition. But there were lesser condition ones as well (it was said these were on the outside of the storage box).

They are beautiful and as I recall, this one on Helmut's site is reasonably priced.

Nice thread Slim! I think it gets more difficult to locate a Russian Hoard EK1 and the price has been increasing. Good investment opportunity.

Ya, I saw this cross as well. Wondered about it being Hoard or not. While so many claim to be, in MY opinion I think it is. I went back and re-read tons of threads on them a while ago because I have always wanted to get my hands on one.

The original post made about what exactly they were described them as being (paraphrasing) MMed 26 or clearly being of Mayer's style, all cased with WHITE bottom inserts, with square push button cases, all in superb condition but some have minor bubbling of the paint on the core and all with some amount of lacquer loss. It was also said that while many were absolute stone mint, a few on the outer regions of the box, more exposed to the elements, were slightly soiled.

In this particular case, I would assume with the light marks on the insert of the case, these would be "soil" marks and perhaps this one wasn't one of the mintiest of the group when bought.

                    Kind Regards ,

I got a reply from Weitze confirming that the captioned EK1 is one from the Russian Hoard which he sold years ago. He stated that he got it back from an Ex-purchaser. I, PERSONALLY, buy such statement. Just a personal preference. In any event, I think it is a nice example albeit not mint.
