    cased 57 opinions please

Hi, I am thinking about purchasing this cross, but the "1813" on the cross looks a bit too low. So could you please give an opinion about it please thanks. PIC 1
    Thanks,

          57 case

Looks like a tipicle late 57 case. I'm not too impressed with long ribbon paper clip.

Your doing everything right. Asking questions. AND YOUWILL LEARN BY MISTAKES. Happy collecting.

            Hi,

Looks like a typical '80s or later S&L example with the (non-mag) core painted by a 5 yr old and the 800 stamped below the 1813. It's not a repro, more a collector's re-strike. The large "paper-clip" like ribbon loop is correct for these more recent examples imo.

Evaluate the item, not the story and not the seller's reputation!

If you PM/contact me without the courtesy of using your first name, please don't be offended if I politely ignore you!

This is a modern version S+L 1957 RK of three part constuction and mon-magnetic core.

I have an identical one which I purchased from Detlev Niemann approx. 18 months ago with '925' stamped on the reverse 6 o'clock arm.

The ribbon loop is quite large when compared with my 1970's magnetic RK but is correct for this package.

A bit 'cheap' in manufacture, but there you go ...

              Regards ...

                57

I have checked all my 57 and non of numbers are that low on reverse. Maybe a late late copy. I personally would not have one. Even the fakes are not that low. (On the ones I have seen and owned)

Here is another example with the date set very low. It is a late production cross, with quality not as good as the earlier ones.

I'm not so sure about the five year olds painting the cores of the RK's but I did hear that a few years ago some artists were teaching Thai elephants to paint.

I always wondered what happened to the elephants ...

                    Regards ...
