What about discussing the hinge, too? That's not the kind normally encountered on Mayers, and I know that there's been some difference of opinion on this type in the past.
So, gentlemen -- any thoughts on this particular hinge?

Did they not find a lot of original "26" marked EK1s in the former Soviet Union? I do not know if this is one...but I read that they found a lot of these in storage since WW2.

this isnt the type from the legendary "hoard". Those were all typical "textbook" BH Mayer crosses.

            Amazing isnt it..

These "variant" crosses pop on the market, and many people are more than ready to accept them.

Now we have the same minty fresh crosses ..but with a different hinge..?

Will the same people be so accepting?

Mark, these aren't my focus but if history repeats itself...yes they will! As with all of the other 'hoards' folks will line up to get them!

                  different hinge problems?

Here are two perfectly good "L/59" EKs with different hinges.

Personally, I think we should open a discussion on the 20 Euro's Paypal fees!

                      26 Crosses....

I had a 26 cross, stone cold mint, stone cold mint case and outer box. The one shown on eStand has a different (IMO repro) outer box, the case does not have the correct "coffin" style push button as the Meyer cases should... I will try and dig out the photos when I return home, but the should still be posted in earlier threads. The cross itself is quite different as well. For what it's worth, the case looks legit, but not correct for an early Meyer/box combo IMO.

                        Hi Rick,

I might agree with you on the case, this could belong to another manufacturer. I have to disagree on the cross and the carton. These are genuine. The case is: Some years ago in Austria a number of these crosses were found along with some blanc award documents and other paperwork. This was kept after the war by a local, until a close friend of mine discovered them. This is one of them. The case might have been switched during the past 60 years. I can contact my friend and ask if he still has some other cases left. This cross should be sold with the correct case, and as you probably guesed, I'm not an expert on these crosses. And ... I know ... you don't buy the story ....

(made a type error ... black instead of blaNc ... )

                          RE: The carton....

Hi Bart, I always have an open mind and will always listen to the story, as it were. The case/carton are a definate mismatch, IMO. I know others have issues with the hinge and catch. I will reserve any further comment until I can access my reference archive at home. I did just review posted photos of the Meyer fake carton and I am inclined to feel better about your box now... but again, I wish to review my own files.
When I first looked at your set, the catch sure throws me for a loop. The initial view of the case is still right on the money for me, but I will also say since the cases are manufactured as generics, anything is possible.
But for me, I would only take the coffin-button push pin on these as that style of case is documented with multiple examples from 2 of the caches found and is consistent with the cases used by Meyer for the EK1 Spange as well.
So, I will pull the files when I return and get more pix posted for comparison, OK?

                            I agree 100% with Rick.

I am still waiting to see one of these alleged "variant" 26 crosses in a state of condition other than stone cold mint. Where are the ones with obvious wear?

Worn examples of the textbook type exist and turn up frequently, why not these?
