Let me state I'm not one for cleaning medals, you can ruin the look in a second of good intention and whats taken years to evolve on the medal.
It's each to their own, I don't prescribe to it thats my choice, there are exceptions and if done with knowledge and care can enhance ones medals (ones medals- I sound like the Queen
)
I've never been happy with this RK KVK which was a part of a refund by a dealer whom I bought many fakes from, it was tarnished and not very pretty; I've seen some super examples owned by members on here though
Whilst at Franks he divulged an 'old wives' cure for tarnished silver without any after effects of damaging the 'frosting' (what littles left on the obverse of mine).
Dubious and cautious and under no obligation like a young maiden I let Frank lead the way ! It is a tried and tested 'cleaning' process on silver and my RK KVK looked unsightly to me so I went ahead and dipped it into the solution (after much debate and thought)
In fact post the process you can vaguely see more traces of frosting evident on the obverse and the chrome effect on the arm rims........just. The pictures don't do it justice, in this country I seem to live in a perpetual dullness !!
When dried it was dabbed NOT rubbed, no other rubbbing or brushing was used it just lay in the solution for two minutes and was then rinsed in clean cold water.
What do you guys think ? I'm very happy with the mild results and don't feel I crossed over the line with it.
How does she look to you guys ?
