      A maker mark?

Surely not a 'Deschler' schinkelform..? There's no such thing...is there?..

Also, just as an observation, see the discussion re curvature of lower right arm and pin assembly here....Maker Marked Schinkel EK1

In my opinion, the 2nd class he's selling is wrong too.

This look like a quality Deschler made item to ANYONE here? How could Deschler make sure fine awards and muff this one so badly? Looks like the telltale tall '1' found on other fakes.

                Schinkel cased WW II

If you Iron Cross guys are that sure there is something wrong with two crosses then I will pull them from my offering right now. These are the first two of this type that I have ever offered and was assured by a well known respected collector they were authentic. I certainly don't want to sell anything that's not real. Thank you.

                  Gailen David,

This has happened more than once and everybody makes mistakes. But since you named your advisor last time, I would strongly suggest you choose another one. This guy is hurting your business and good name. Any collector who tells you these are ok is either a bloody beginner, a crook or too old to care. Certainly not a respected collector because this definition does not allow for neither beginner nor crook.
                  Cheers, Frank

FRANK: SURE, IT HAS HAPPEN MORE THEN ONCE. NOT EVERYONE CAN KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT EVERYTHING. WHEN YOU SELL 1000 ITEMS A YEAR, ONCE IN A WHILE YOU ARE GOING TO MAKE A MISTAKE. THE MAIN THING IS TO BE MAN ENOUGH TO OWN UP TO IT AND DO WHAT IS RIGHT. WHICH I THINK WAS DONE HERE. I NEVER OVER THE YEARS SOLD ANY OF THESE TYPE CROSSES BECAUSE I WAS NOT COMFORTABLE WITH MY KNOWLEDGE BASE ON THEM. SHOULD HAVE STAYED WITH THAT MIND SET.
FOR SOME REASON I GET THE FEELING I AM BEING SCOLDED HERE BY YOU. WHICH I THINK IS UNNECESSARY.

Frank: I Think My Reputation In The Third Reich Collectable Field Is As Good As Anyones. I Post Front And Reverses Of All Badges I Sell On My Site Along With Excellent Pictures. Considering All The Items I Post, It Is Not Often That I Get Any Bad Press About An Item. And If There Is The Possibility Something Is Wrong With Some Item I Am Offering. I Pull It Until It Can Substantiated One Way Or The Other. Don't You Think I Know That Every Badge I Sell Is Under The Magnifying Glass For Examination. Do You Think For A Minute That I Would Knowingly Sell A Piece I Did Not Think Was Original? Give Me A Break.

Gailen, I doubt anyone here on this forum would suggest you are a crook. Most folks here are very civilized. A few years ago I posted a dagger on GDC for sale. A gorgeous Government Dagger I still own. I was told I was crazy if I thought I, and that's a capital I, could command a price equal to Gailen David's or Wittman or Johnson. I protested that this dagger was real, as real as anyone else had for sale. But Craig and others put me in my place telling me I, capital I again, was NO Gailen, Johnson or Wittman and their items commanded more money because of who they are. After, all it was pointed out, they are experts and no doubts will ever surface regarding the veracity of their items. Although, my dagger was seen as perfect.

Well I thought it nonsense at the time. Gailen's, Johnson's and Wittman's and Craig's are MORE real than mine?

So when I see badges such as this go on your site with the usual words as to authenticity, it harkens me to my uncomfortable days on GDC. And, reminds me of what I knew then, we ALL make mistakes.

That is why I am now a badge and medal guy. Real is real and not more real because anyone else sells it. Sure some people don't read the reviews of badges here or don't want to spend the time, that's the way it will be. But for this community, real is real and it commands no premium based on the last hands touching it.

I don't mean any disrespect, nor am I scolding you. Just thought you might want to know one opinion from one guy collecting and selling items from his collection to fund other purchases.

Gailen, can I make the point that I have purchased Iron Crosses from you before and have been absolutely delighted with your service. In pointing out that the EK2 is in my opinion wrong is in no way a slight on you. I was caught out with one of these Schinkels some time ago myself.

Gailen, feel free to post questionable items here. As you know, there are great reproductions out there. With Luftwaffe badges now you have to get down to 10x magnification. We'd be thrilled to see what you come up with. It would be great to have someone with your contacts and knowledge working with us.
