Schinkelform Question

Just a quick question - are there any really GOOD fakes of the Shinkelform EKII 1939 in production, or have the fakers not yet got round to trying thier hand at these?

yes they do copy the Schinkel EK2's

I would only say that the best copy is a reasonable attempt!

There are decent copies, but nothing very threatening if you know what to look for.

The larger question in my mind is, was there postwar production of Deumers?

The most "famous" one. Trying hard to be a Deumer.

Postwar Shinkelforms? Lets hope not. I just purchased my first Shinkelform EKII and by using the excellent threads in this forum I can see it's a Deumer - it's the non magnetic type and has a nice rattle when shaken. The soldering seems a little less than perfect - the join between the frames is easy to make out, and there is even a slight gap. Usually the join on EKIIs is nothing more than a faint line. Having said that the quality is very good, and the cross itself is in excellent condition. I noticed that the magnetic type have a better defined and sharper detail than the non magnetic, and thats what made me wonder about fakes as mine looks a little 'soft', but so do those I have seen in the forum.

We know they made standard framed -57 EK's for some time but those are of lower quality than the war made ones.

Deumer Schinkels are by far the most common ones and found with both Iron and non magnetic cores. Sometimes found in extreme mint condition. Maybe Deumer had a stock of Schinkel when the new regulations came into use and stored them somewhere?

When exactly did the Schinkel crosses come to collectors knowledge and started to be priced higher than the standard framed ones?

I'm not sure when it happened, but the Shinkelform and the oversize EKII plus the round 3 seem to have taken off at around the same time. I have seen shinkelform and oversize selling here in the UK at £250+, and I just paid £225 for mine. It was a case of 'now or never' so I went for it, having some spare cash thanks to the taxman. I now see EKIIs are selling at a higher price if they are maker marked, and that in turn is leading to fake marks on genuine crosses.
