    unfinished EK1

    HI All,

I recently bought a grouping of stuff that had an EK1 that looked like it had never been assembled. What would this be worth? The vet had glued it together at one time but it came apart. Kind of neat in a way because you can see how they constructed them! I almost forgot it is an unmarked Schinkel.

I will post some pics later.

    Thanks in advance,

Photos would be in order Bill! May be that it indeed was assembled but the frames split! Not all crosses had soldered frames! a Schinkel though?
Look forward to seeing it Bill.

      Hi,

Sorry for the delay. Here is the cross I was talking about. It has several characteristics that show it was an unfinished EK.

      What would this be worth?

      Thanks in advance,

Bill, this looks to be a Wiedmann, I have one just like it with the later style catch where the early ones had a catch on a plate like the hinge block.

my cross has open frame areas except the frame corners! No signs of solder on it and it's pretty mint.

This one you posted probably had the same solder or press process and split!! Looks like somone has tried to re solder it and very poorly I will say! Lead solder and not silver solder being used....
So IMO it is not worth alot as it has had a poor repair attempt! but interesting none the less as it allows a peek between frame half's!

        Best of luck!
        Kevin

Here is a link to a thread with my cross! You can clearly see the open frame!

I'd use a quality soldering iron and heat that inferior solder up and remove as much of it as possible with the bulb-shapped suction device similiar to the one used to get boogers out of a babies nose.

This cross would have been either soldered or unassembled.

Some of you mght consider a pair of glasses, take another look at the shape of the date....

I did not notice the round 3 till another member pointed it out to me. I was so concerned about it being unfinished didn't even notice it

                Here is a better picture.

This is one reason I think it was unfinished.

The exact point in time where some 'big shot' in the Third Reich finally shouted - " If I see one more round 3 EK someone is gonna be shot!".

I also missed that it was a round 3 and have owned it for 2 months.

Certainly a 100% weird EK1/2, round three, multi part... mess

Hey Kevin, didn't Schickle have a pin hinge setup like that as well, I don't remember??

Well, the two options I would consider would be, either take it to a jeweler and have it repaired/assembled or just keep it for study purposes. Not worth much as is for me personally although, I have seen disassembled Imperial EK2's go for 60 euros! Go figure, this is a strange hobby and it keeps getting stranger by the week haha

You could always send it to the "doc" Jimmy (above my post) and he'll fix it up...
