Yet another EKI - Need Opinions Please...

I'm on an EKI buying spree This one looks a bit different from some of the others I've purchased recently so I need some more opinions.

I know Deumer and probably a couple other makers' crosses are shiny like this one, but I don't recognize the hinge as being Deumer.

There is a stamp on the pin but I can't make it out in the photo, and the guy selling it can't read it either (he's older and has bad eyesight).

The box, though busted, doesn't look like any other box I've seen either. Usually they're held closed via a pin, and there is no overlapping lip like you see here. The pillow also looks different; usually there is a rigid paper rim around it that is missing here.

    Thoughts??

Sorry for the bad photos, but it's all I could get my hands on...

    Thanks!

The cross looks like an L/56. I can see the stamp on the pin, I believe. The case is a 'half-case', and is period.

Thanks Robert. I've never seen this type of case before. The owner said he has the top of the case, so is it not broken after all?

This type of case had a paper hinge, which tore apart with continued use. I have a couple in my collection. Here is one which houses a Deschler KVKI...

Oh, ok. Thanks for the photo. So its not a total loss as long as I have the top and bottom pieces. Do you see any added value in trying to repair the hinge, or should I leave it as-is?

Also, is this type of case considered more rare, thus more valuable?

            Here's another...

No, I wouldn't try to repair it. It will only reduce the value. And, they're not rare, and are not higher in value than the push-button type. It's nice to have an 'LDO' case with an 'L'-stamped cross.

So the LDO case is proper for this particular cross maker?

I've 'L'-stamped crosses in both type cases, non 'LDO' and 'LDO'. I prefer my 'L'-stamped crosses in 'LDO' cases , yes.

That helps. I can see how those would have torn over time.

Thanks a TON for the help Robert. You're awesome!

So you got the lid to the box. Great. Your cross is very nice. This maker's crosses are known for their very sharp (pin-point sharp) outside corners. Thank you for the wonderful photos.

Ya, got the lid. The box is in better condition than I anticipated too. Overall a very nice addition to my collection.

                          Take care Robert!
