    EK2 K&Q with packet...

Just looking to get some opinions... what's an Eisernes Kreuz 2.Klasse made by Klein & Quenzer A.G. / Oberslein worth these daze if it's in near-mint condition and comes with the accompanying near-mint packet?

This is assuming it looks like it's in basically unissued condition with no folds/wear to the ribbon, etc. I've seen these selling for $250 on dealer sites, which is obviously on the high side, but I'm open to hearing about other dealer/retail, wholesale/collector-to-collector prices or whatever. Thanks in advance for your opinions.

    Hi Bagel

Probably around $100 less than what you have seen them sell for !

I would say $200 or €140 is a fair asking price for any Packeted EK2 as long as it's not in very rough shape, or very common. As K&Q is perhaps the most common maker, maybe $175 or €125. But then again, many people love "mint."

        EK2 packets and ribbon

I have this EK2 that has a really ratty piece of ribbon attached to it... can anyone tell who the maker is from these mediocre pics? I can take better ones if necessary...

              question

The main reason I'm asking is because I'm considering getting new ribbon and a packet for it... I want to know if:

              A) It's worth spending extra money to improve this EK2
              B) If the packet I'm considering would be "appropriate" for this maker

Not sure of the maker of your EK2, but I would most definitely not "upgrade" the ribbon -- the ribbon it has might have been with it since the war. Also that Packet is a fake.

                      thank you!

Thank you for the input, I definitely hear what you're saying - I'm all for keeping sets together, especially if they're attributed items...

... but for something like a random EK2, wouldn't it add more value to get it a mint condition piece of ribbon and a mint packet? I guess I could consider getting a packet and skip the new ribbon...

... only problem is I don't know how to figure out which type of packet is appropriate...

Why would you get a mint ribbon & packet for a not mint cross. The cross/ribbon combo you posted is fine, the way it is (as others have stated).

                          Leave it be!

                          Hello,

As it stands, the ribbon and cross both show their age and have character. There is no need to change a thing. I really like the look of that ribbon: it has great coloration and screams original. As others have mentioned, that packet you are contemplating is definitely bogus. And, since the packet is bad, there is a good chance that the ribbon that comes with it is a modern reproduction as well. So by looking to increase the value of that Iron Cross, you will actually be devaluing it.

                          Best regards,
                          Tom
