Maker of this EK2 with rough core?

Any opinions about the maker of this EK? The magnetic core is matt black and a little rough:

It matches the one Robert Pierce has . If I have this marked correctly his is marked 16 for Rettenmaier . They were supplied by S&L . Being unmarked however only makes your cross a S&L EK2 .

          Douglas,

With all respect to you, are you sure the dates match? I see the steep pitch on the top of the '3', and have my doubts. I just don't see this pitch on the reverse date of my '16'.

            My '16'...

Edit: Also look at the positioning of the date; one is lower than the other, much lower.

Hi Robert : I do see now that the top of the 3 has more of a slant than I first thought . The core of his has dropped down to where one corner is riding up on the Swaz . It is not the same core then .
The frame is the dominant feature here and it still matches .

Please see both dates of my ek. The 1939 have some space to the lower edge, the 1813 not:
