Hi Rick,

No there isn't a fitting any more. I had suspected once either a long stickpin attachment or, as you suggest, most probably a button. The strange thing is that the Spange is hollow struck, not solid like most made for the ribbon bar I've seen, and has no sign of ever having had attachment prongs, hence the tread used to attach it. Everything however is in my opinion100% unaltered from the period, even the thread attaching the Spange is old and discoloured. I love it!

Dear Gordon,

Not the same award and not exactly in the same league and period but also owner improvized and also on a triangle construction. This one has a safety pin sown to the back for wear. It seems all to be of genuine construction. Thought it might interest you to see the same improvized construction, maybe yours had a safety pin sown to it as well?
